4 All-Natural Ways To Keep Your Plumbing In Good Working Order

Posted on

Have you been experiencing plumbing problems in your home lately? If so, you may want to consider giving one of these all-natural solutions a try.

1. Keep Your Drains Clean

Keeping your bathtub, shower, and sink drains clean and free of hair and other debris is one of the best ways to keep your plumbing in good working order. Mixing white vinegar and baking soda together and pouring it down your drain works very well to help prevent it from becoming clogged. For optimal results, you should pour this mixture down your drain approximately once per month.

2. Use Eco-Friendly Products

Using products that are eco-friendly and biodegradable is not only a great way to help protect the environment, it's also really good for your plumbing. Next time you go shopping, make sure to pick up eco-friendly toilet paper and cleaning products instead of the products that you usually buy.

They may cost a little more than what you are typically used to. However, the extra expense is well worth it in terms of not only helping the environment, but it can really help save on your plumbing costs as well. The reason for this is that regular toilet paper that's not biodegradable is much more likely to clog your toilet. Also, regular cleaning products tend to contain harsh chemicals that can cause damage to your plumbing.

3. Don't Flush Cat Litter

Some brands of cat litter advertise themselves as being safe to flush. However, cat litter is one of those items that just doesn't tend to flush well even when a particular brand claims to be flushable. You should always avoid flushing cat litter down the toilet since it can cause your pipes to become clogged. A better alternative is to put the cat litter in a trash bag and throw it out instead.

4. Keep Pets Away From Your Toilet

Many household pets such as cats and dogs enjoy drinking water out of the toilet. You should make sure that you always leave the toilet seat down when not in use so that they are not able to do this. Not only is it unsanitary for your pet but it's not good for your plumbing either. The reason for this is that your pet's hair tends to get in the toilet whenever they drink from it and this can result in your toilet becoming clogged.
